This cable consists of headphone and microphone ports, designed to work with Intel Front Panel Audio / AC97 header.

Plugging of headphone on the front panel disconnects the motherboard's speaker socket located at the back of the PC.

For HD (high definition) audio, normally it's backward compatible with AC97 audio, please check your mother-board manual to confirm.

WIRE ASSIGNMENTS

The ground wire is fatter and can be easily recognized. The microphone wires (red & black) are marked with black plastic tubes.


IFPA / AC97 HEADER CONNECTION GUIDES

Diagram 1: The Intel Front Panel Audio (IFPA) / AC97 header consists of 9 pins arranged in 2 rows.

Diagram 2: The 2 pairs of pin for front and back Line-Out's are usually connected with jumpers, i.e. the pins are shorted if no front headphone port is installed. You need to remove the jumpers.

Diagram 3: Plug the connector onto the pin-outs in such that the color coded wires are correctly connected to the appropriate pins.

The NC and +5V pins are for reserved purpose. No connection to these pins are required.

In most cases, you do not have to shift the wires in the header connector, as these wires have been arranged to match perfectly with the IFPA / AC97 pinouts.


MOTHERBOARD'S SPEAKER SOCKET

Your speakers should be plugged into the motherboard's speaker socket (line-out) located at the back of your PC. Once headphone is plugged on the front panel, your speakers will be automatically disconnected.
